The purpose of the professional knowledge standard is to ensure that teachers have both content knowledge of their subject and pedagogical knowledge that will enable their students to understand the material as well. Teachers who effectively meet this standard will have up-to-date knowledge of their material, understand the implications of their students’ development on how they learn content knowledge, and adapt the material so it is relevant to their students.
Displaying my background knowledge required the passing of the VCLA, RVE, and Praxis Elementary scores, which are displayed in the slider below:

During my time as a student teacher, I had a unit on Earth cycles. I took my children’s developmental stage into account by including a choreographed song on the water cycle. The children enjoyed it so much they still requested it after the science unit ended.
In addition to teaching about the water cycle, I reviewed the plant life cycles with my students. I incorporated real life examples by asking students to compare their life cycles to plant life cycles and including common images they have seen before such as a car covered in pollen.
